I knew that the Spanish-Mexican artist Remedios Varo (1908-1963) was one of Leonora Carrington's closest friends, but only today did I realize what a great artist she was. In a bookshop in Mexico City I found a brandnew book (in Spanish) about Varo, beautifully and very richly illustrated and with large essays on her work, influences and so on: Cinco llaves del mundo secreto de Remedios Varo (Artes de México 2008). Leafing through it I fell from one rapture into another: so much beauty, all in one single book...

This is truly beautiful TT, I can imagine what it is like holding the book itself... A gifted writer has joined the blog (Eroticism, etc..), Pamela A. Babusci, have a look. I am working on a narrative poem cycle themed on the Silk Road, if you care for it, check my main blog.

TT, cannot thank you enough for the comment tonight, unwittingly you have waken me form a reverie to remind me the brain is not a vegetable:) a state it was too happy to reside in lately.. maybe my heart has not been in the right place awhile now, but that is no excuse not to think! I do not know the book/author you mentioned, but ever grateful for the crumbs, as environmentally (at the moment) deprived of brain-food. I will definitely get it, is there only an English translation? If any better, can read it in French, Spanish, etc.. but sadly not Italian. I need a shamman dance to wake from malevolent lethargic dream, can you do that through a Blogger too:)?
TT, just checked Giordano Bruno, didn't realize he was the one who developed mnemonics too. Surprised there isn't a good Oxford or Cambridge translation, even at the moment nothing at all available. Will have to search some old-book seller a bit more rarified; do you know by whom is the translation you referred to?

Oh TT, thanks for the tip on Bruno, will have a look, though I must confess I have not gone very far with the Life of Puppets yet, (so still need to finish that, before I go on to Bruno) not for any reason other than I have not had enough private time to concentrate. Yes, I know you are in my Fatherland:) but are you a Flying Dutchman of are you English?
I am in the UK.... but not of it.. I feel like a 5000 year old dinosaur on speed :) come from many lands.. via Utrecht through paternal line, and the maternal side, straddles a couple of continents, I am born in yet another one..

Hello TT, at last getting to grips with The Life of Puppets.. by the shores of Lac Leman:) Really a wonderful book. I saw the references to G. Bruno.
By the way did you read the Saragossa Manuscripts by Jan Potocki? The caves of the Sierra Nevada (the "grotto" of Nelson), the genies... very much what V. Nelson talks about, still wondering whether there is any reference to it yet, in her book.
I have a very good translation by an Oxford don, it is worth reading.
